Imphal, May 31: Manipur Police have introduced a barcode-based E-Malkhana system to digitally manage case properties and exhibits, aiming to enhance evidence storage, tracking and retrieval.
The system has been implemented at Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East district, where each seized item and exhibit is now assigned a unique barcode linked to its respective case record.
The barcode contains detailed information, including FIR number, applicable legal provisions, investigating officer details, description of the property, photographs, case status and disposal records.
Officials said the digital integration will enable faster identification and retrieval of exhibits during investigations and court proceedings, while also ensuring improved preservation of evidence.
The E-Malkhana system is intended to strengthen transparency, accountability and efficiency in handling case properties through systematic digital documentation.
Police stated that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to modernise station-level operations and adopt scientific methods in evidence management.
