Manipur Police Recover 600 Grams of Narcotics, Arrest Seven in Multi-District Crackdown

Imphal, Jan 22: Manipur Police have intensified their anti-narcotics drive, seizing nearly 600 grams of heroin and brown sugar and arresting seven suspected drug traffickers during coordinated operations carried out across four districts between January 19 and January 21, officials said.

The largest recovery was made on Tuesday in Kakching district, where police intercepted two residents of Chandel district at Pallel Makha Leikai Pathabi along the Pallel IVR Road. The accused, identified as Veronica Moyon, 28, of Thangkin village and Chihanring Shinglai, 32, of Thotchanram village, were found carrying 25 soap cases containing around 299 grams of heroin number 4 powder. A two-wheeler and two mobile phones were also seized from their possession.

On the same day, another operation led to the arrest of Avio S of Katafimai village at a checkpoint under Tadubi police station along National Highway 2 in Senapati district. Police recovered 20 soap cases of brown sugar from his white Bolero vehicle, along with a mobile phone and identification documents.

Earlier, on January 19, security forces detained two individuals, Letkhothang Haokip, 30, and Robert Lunminthang Haokip, 20, at Mombi in Chandel district. The duo were allegedly carrying 22 soap cases containing approximately 300 grams of brown sugar. Officials also recovered Rs 2,800 in cash, two mobile phones with three SIM cards, two debit cards and a Kenbo motorcycle during the operation.

In a parallel action targeting illegal tobacco distribution, police intercepted a Tata vehicle at Sekmaijing bridge in Kakching district on January 20 and arrested Khomdram Bikramjit Singh, 29, and Shagolshem Sanjoy Singh, 33. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of 112 packets of Royal Chewing Tobacco and 98 packets of Dilbag Talap Pan Masala.

Meanwhile, as part of efforts to curb drug production at the source, security forces joined hands with the forest department, the Narcotics and Affairs of Border department and an executive magistrate to destroy poppy cultivation spread over approximately 15 acres at the G. Monglian hill range in Churachandpur district on Tuesday. Two huts found at the cultivation site were also set ablaze. Police said a case has been registered at Sangaikot police station for further legal action.

Officials said the operations reflect Manipur Police’s sustained push against drug trafficking networks and related illegal activities across the state.
