Imphal, Jan 8: Manipur Police have rescued four young individuals who were allegedly being forcibly recruited into a banned militant organisation, following the arrest of an active insurgent cadre in Imphal West district. The operation has once again drawn attention to efforts by outlawed groups to target vulnerable youth in the state.
The arrest was made on January 6, when police detained Phamdom Dinesh Singh, 37, also known by the aliases Wangba and Thembung, from his residence at Takyel Khongbal Maning Leikai Lairembi Leirak under the jurisdiction of Patsoi Police Station. Singh is reportedly an active member of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (MFL) and was allegedly involved in recruiting young people into the outfit.
Following his detention, police launched a search operation that led to the rescue of four youths who had been confined in a rented house at Langjing. Officials said the individuals were being held against their will as part of the recruitment process. For security reasons, the identities of the rescued youths have not been disclosed.
During the operation, police also recovered a mobile phone and an unregistered Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle from the possession of the accused. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether Singh was acting alone or as part of a wider recruitment network linked to the banned group.
