Manipur Police Seize Heroin and Psychotropic Drugs in Twin Operations, Two Arrested

Manipur Police arrested two men in separate operations on December 24, recovering a significant quantity of heroin and psychotropic substances, as authorities intensified their crackdown on narcotics trafficking across the state. The seizures underline sustained enforcement efforts against drug networks operating along inter-state routes.

In Imphal East district, police arrested Md. Mustakim, 29, a resident of Sangaiyumpham Pt-1, during a targeted operation at Mantripukhri under the jurisdiction of Heingang Police Station. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, officers recovered 24 soap cases of Heroin No. 4 weighing approximately 310 grams from his possession. A Maruti Swift car bearing registration number AS-01-BE-7900, allegedly used in the operation, was also seized.

Officials said further investigation is underway to identify the source of the heroin and to trace possible links extending beyond the district, as police work to dismantle the wider supply chain.

Earlier the same day, another major seizure was made in the Chandrapur area under Jiribam police station limits. Security forces arrested Ilaj Ali Laskar, 29, a resident of Lalpani, and recovered around 1.6 lakh psychotropic tablets marked “WY/R,” weighing about 18.6 kg. A truck bearing registration number AS24 AC-3721, allegedly used to transport the consignment, was also taken into custody.

Police said the twin recoveries reflect continued pressure on drug trafficking networks spanning Manipur and neighbouring Assam. Authorities indicated that more arrests are likely as investigations progress and enforcement operations continue across key transit corridors.
