Security forces in Manipur successfully apprehended an active member of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK (PRO)) on November 27. The arrest took place in Khangabok Part-II, falling under the jurisdiction of the Thoubal Police Station in Thoubal district. The individual was identified as Khangebam Nelson Singh, also known as Khangamba, a 24-year-old resident of Athokpam Awang Leikai within the same district. Upon his apprehension, authorities recovered a mobile phone and a SIM card, which officials suggest may contain vital information concerning ongoing extortion rings and broader insurgent activities operating within the region.
In an effort to curb incidents of intimidation and criminal activities perpetrated by insurgent groups, security agencies have significantly intensified intelligence-based combing, cordon, and search operations throughout the state. Concurrently, security forces successfully facilitated the movement of 184 vehicles transporting essential commodities along National Highway-37. Officials confirmed that convoy protection measures have been reinforced, particularly across vulnerable and sensitive sections of the route, to guarantee the seamless supply of goods to various parts of Manipur.
As part of the heightened vigilance across the region, a comprehensive total of 114 Nakas and checkpoints were established across multiple districts, covering both the hill and valley areas. Despite the extensive operations, no detentions were reported during these specific checkpoint deployments. Security forces affirmed their commitment to maintaining an alert posture to proactively thwart any further attempts by insurgent groups seeking to destabilize the state.
