Security forces in Manipur have successfully executed a series of coordinated operations, resulting in the apprehension of three insurgent cadres associated with separate, banned underground organizations. These detentions mark a focused effort by authorities to disrupt extortion networks and ongoing militant activities throughout the state.
The most recent arrest occurred on December 2 in Imphal West, where security personnel detained 25-year-old Laishram Pronanjit Singh at Uripok Yambem Leikai. Singh is suspected of operating an extortion racket on behalf of the UNLF (K), and officers recovered a mobile phone believed to have been used in connection with these illegal communication activities.
A day earlier, on December 1, two separate actions yielded further arrests. In Kakching district, forces successfully apprehended Thounaojam Subhashchandra Meitei, an individual identified as an active member of the RPF/PLA. Meitei was taken into custody from his residence at Waikhong Kangsam Leikai, and a mobile phone was seized during the operation. Concurrently, in another operation within Imphal West, security teams detained 40-year-old Thounaojam Yaima Meitei, who is described as an active cadre of the KCP (PWG). He was arrested at Langthabal Kunja Makha Leikai, and authorities recovered both a mobile phone and a SIM card from his possession.
Officials have indicated that these strategic arrests are expected to generate crucial leads into the wider operational links and financial networks utilized by various insurgent groups currently active across the region.
