Manipur Security Forces Arrest Three Militants, Recover Arms and Explosives in Multiple Operations

Imphal, March 18: Security forces in Manipur arrested three active cadres of different banned outfits and seized a cache of arms and explosives during coordinated operations carried out on March 17.

In Kakching district, an operative of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army was apprehended from the Singtom area under Sugnu police station. The arrested individual, identified as Elangbam Abinash alias Rakesh (21), is a resident of Hiyanglam Makha Leikai and is suspected to have been involved in insurgent activities in the region.

In a separate operation in Imphal East district, security personnel detained Mutum Ranjan Singh alias Mangal (46), an active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), near Irilbung High School under Irilbung police station. Officials said a mobile phone and a scooter were seized from his possession at the time of arrest.

Another operation in Imphal West district led to the arrest of Taorem Arunkumar Singh (32), an operative of PREPAK (Pro), from the Canchipur area under Singjamei police station. A resident of Chanam Sandrok Makha Leikai in Imphal East district, he was found carrying a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card, which were recovered during the operation.

In a related development, security forces also recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from the Ithing Mamang ground area under Keibul Lamjao police station in Bishnupur district. The seized items included a .303 rifle with a magazine, a .32 mm pistol with a magazine, a No. 36 hand grenade, a locally made bomb, 12 live rounds of ammunition of different calibres, 15 INSAS empty cartridges and a bulletproof plate.

Officials said the operations were part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities and maintain security in the state.
