Security forces in Manipur destroyed 42 acres of illegal poppy plantations in Kangpokpi district on December 20, torching 20 huts and seizing chemicals and seeds. This forms part of a five-day anti-poppy drive; in Ukhrul district, 559 acres were cleared between December 16-20, with 82 huts destroyed and poppy pods seized. Three FIRs were filed.
In separate actions, MD Habib (28) was caught with 212g of brown sugar in Tengnoupal, and two men were arrested with 400 litres of illicit liquor near Kakching. Vehicles and items were seized.
