Manipur Security Forces Dismantle Bunkers in Ukhrul, Recover Ammunition to Ease Tensions

Imphal, March 25: In a major step towards stabilising unrest-hit areas of Ukhrul district, security forces conducted coordinated operations across multiple locations under the Litan Police Station jurisdiction on March 24, dismantling fortified positions and recovering ammunition from conflict-prone zones.

According to official sources, the operations were carried out simultaneously in Lengiangching and Mongkat Chepu villages, where bunkers constructed by rival groups were systematically destroyed and rendered inoperative. The action forms part of a broader strategy aimed at neutralising defensive structures that have been used during recent confrontations.

Security personnel also recovered a significant number of fired cartridges from the sites, indicating the intensity of previous clashes in the area. Authorities said the dismantling of these bunkers is a crucial step towards de-escalating tensions and preventing further violence.

Officials confirmed that incidents of firing have reduced considerably following the operations, suggesting an improvement in the ground situation. Security forces have since established strong area domination through sustained patrolling and strategic deployment across sensitive pockets.

The development comes amid continued efforts by the administration to restore normalcy in Manipur’s conflict-affected regions, where sporadic violence has disrupted civilian life. Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and preventing any resurgence of hostilities through proactive measures and heightened vigilance.
