Imphal, Feb 25: In a significant move to maintain regional stability, security forces conducted a successful search operation in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Tuesday, February 24. The mission resulted in the recovery of a substantial cache of illegal weaponry, live ammunition, and tactical protective equipment, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb the presence of unauthorized war-like stores in the area.
The coordinated operation was centered in the Nungai Hill Range, an area falling under the jurisdiction of the Sagolmang Police Station. Acting on precise intelligence, personnel scoured the rugged terrain to locate the concealed items. The seizure included a country-made rifle, a 9 mm country-made pistol with a matching magazine, and a high-explosive HE-36 hand grenade. Alongside these weapons, five rounds of .303 ammunition were also retrieved from the site.
Beyond offensive weaponry, the recovery included specialized gear designed for active combat. Security personnel seized two bulletproof helmets, a magazine pouch, three slings, and a bulletproof jacket reinforced with two metal plates. Official sources noted that the nature of the recovered items—specifically the combination of firearms and protective armor—suggests the cache was likely stockpiled for use in planned armed operations.
Following the recovery, the seized materials were secured for further investigation. This operation underscores the continued vigilance of security forces in the valley districts as they work to dismantle underground networks and ensure public safety. No arrests were immediately reported in connection with the find, but the recovery is being viewed as a vital step in neutralizing potential threats in the sensitive Imphal East region.
