Mansukh Mandaviya to Visit Meghalaya for National Games Review and Sports Infrastructure Inspection

Shillong, May 29: Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will undertake a three-day visit to Shillong in Meghalaya from May 29 to May 31 to participate in programmes related to youth affairs, sports infrastructure development and the review of centrally sponsored schemes.

During the visit, the Union Minister will attend the Chintan Shivir organised by the Department of Youth Affairs. Senior officials, including Walladmiki Shylla, are also expected to participate in the programme.

On May 30, Mandaviya, along with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, will inaugurate the Integrated Multipurpose Indoor Sports Complex in Shillong. Built at a cost of Rs 132.9 crore, the facility has been designed to host indoor sports such as basketball, badminton and volleyball.

The sports complex is expected to serve as a major venue for the 39th National Games 2027 and will also feature multipurpose halls, an auditorium and banquet facilities.

During the visit, the Host State Contract for the 39th National Games 2027 will be formally signed in the presence of senior dignitaries and representatives of the Indian Olympic Association.

Mandaviya will also chair a high-level review meeting on preparations for the National Games with officials from Meghalaya and representatives of other Northeastern states.

As part of his itinerary, the Union Minister will inspect the Umsawli Sports Complex in Shillong, including its aquatics and tennis facilities, to review ongoing sports infrastructure projects.

On May 31, he is scheduled to review the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes in Ri Bhoi district under the Poorvottar Sampark Setu initiative.

The visit is being viewed as part of the Centre’s continued push to strengthen youth engagement, expand sports infrastructure and support developmental initiatives across the Northeast.
