ITANAGAR, Aug. 4: A massive landslide triggered by heavy rainfall blocked the Seppa–Itanagar road in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, with a vehicle reportedly buried under mud, rocks and debris at Zero Block Point near Seppa.
According to initial reports, a large section of the hillside collapsed onto the roadway, cutting off vehicular movement along the key route connecting Seppa in East Kameng district with the state capital, Itanagar.
The vehicle caught in the landslide is believed to have been completely buried under the debris. However, there was no official confirmation on the number of occupants or whether the incident caused any casualties or injuries.
Authorities are expected to launch rescue and road clearance operations to assess the situation and restore connectivity at the earliest. Officials are also likely to inspect the affected stretch for any further landslide risk before allowing traffic to resume.
Meanwhile, motorists have been advised to avoid the Seppa–Itanagar road and follow official advisories until the route is declared safe for travel.
Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed continuous rainfall over the past few days, triggering landslides and disrupting road connectivity in several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further heavy rainfall in parts of the state, with authorities urging residents to remain cautious and avoid travel through landslide-prone areas.
