Dibrugarh: The Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) and Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA), along with the All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA), Assam Chah Janajati Mahasabha, and 36 other allied organisations, organised a massive protest rally in Dibrugarh today demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, land rights, and a wage hike for the tea tribe and Adivasi communities of Assam.
Thousands of protestors took to the streets, with the main demonstration held at Chowkidinghee Chariali in Dibrugarh. The rally witnessed a strong turnout as participants marched with placards and banners, voicing their long-pending demands for social justice and recognition.
Before converging at Chowkidinghee for the central protest, demonstrators gathered at multiple assembly points — including Murlidhar Jalan Bus Terminus, Mancotta Playground, and Barpathar Playground — before marching in unison to the main venue.
The protest marks one of the largest public mobilisations in recent months by the tea tribe and Adivasi organisations, who have been pressing the government to fulfil its commitments regarding ST status and fair wages for tea garden workers, along with securing land ownership rights for their communities.
