Massive Rocket, German Rifle Seized in Manipur Anti-Insurgency Operations

A major counter-insurgency sweep has uncovered a significant cache of weaponry across several districts of Manipur, with police confirming the seizure of a fully prepared, improvised long-range rocket. The powerful device, containing nearly 40 kilograms of explosive, was discovered on November 11 in Gelmol village in the Churachandpur district. Authorities noted that the rocket was accompanied by a launching stand and a battery, indicating it was in a state of operational readiness.

The discovery in Gelmol was part of a broader security campaign that yielded substantial armaments in other regions. In the Kangpokpi district, security forces recovered a sizeable stockpile near Songlung village. This included a German-made rifle, two bolt-action rifles, four pull-mechanism rifles, an improvised mortar, several hand grenades, detonators, and a radio communication set.

Further reinforcing concerns about the flow of sophisticated arms, a separate operation conducted in the Gelbung jungle resulted in the recovery of additional military-grade equipment. The haul consisted of a CMG carbine, a .303 rifle, two pistols, nine bolt-action rifles, a country-made single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) gun, a locally assembled grenade, plastic explosives, and various communication devices. Police officials stated that these recent recoveries underscore the persistent challenges posed by the movement of advanced weaponry in the state’s conflict-affected areas, and they confirmed that these security operations will proceed without let-up.
