Massive Yaba Haul Worth ₹39 Crore Seized on NH-306 in Cachar, Three Arrested

Guwahati, Jan 21: Security agencies scored a major success against interstate narcotics trafficking with the seizure of a huge consignment of yaba tablets during a late-night operation on National Highway 306 in Assam’s Cachar district. The interception, carried out on November 20, 2025, is being seen as a significant blow to organised drug networks operating through the Northeast.

Acting on precise intelligence inputs, personnel of the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, stopped two Tata trucks suspected of carrying illegal substances. A thorough search of the vehicles led to the recovery of 1,30,000 yaba tablets, which officials estimate to be worth around ₹39 crore in the illegal market.

Three individuals, all hailing from Tripura, were taken into custody from the spot. Investigators also seized two mobile phones from their possession, which are expected to provide crucial leads into the movement and coordination behind the consignment.

Officials believe the narcotics were being transported through the Cachar corridor, a strategically important route linking Assam with neighbouring states and other parts of the Northeast. The stretch has increasingly come under scrutiny for its use by interstate drug syndicates.

Further investigation is underway to trace the origin of the drugs and uncover possible connections to a larger trafficking network. Security agencies said the operation highlights the continued misuse of Assam’s highway network by organised criminal groups, while reiterating that intensified surveillance and joint operations are yielding tangible results in disrupting narcotics supply chains in southern Assam.
