Meghalaya Assembly Budget Session Set for February 16–27

Shillong, Jan 28: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will hold its Budget Session from February 16 to February 27, 2026, with the State Budget scheduled to be presented on February 20, officials said on January 27.

The schedule was finalised at a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), which outlined a ten-day session featuring an intensive legislative agenda. Of the total sittings, seven days have been earmarked for government business, while three days will be devoted to private members’ business, signalling detailed deliberations on financial and policy matters.

Speaker Thomas A. Sangma chaired the BAC meeting, which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs Prestone Tynsong. Leader of the Opposition Mukul Sangma and MLA Paul Lyngdoh participated in the meeting through video conference.

Senior officials from the Parliamentary Affairs Department and the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat were also present during the discussions.

Officials said the House may extend its sittings, if necessary, to ensure full participation by members. On the day the Supplementary Demand for Grants is taken up, proceedings are expected to continue until 3 pm to accommodate detailed discussions.
