Meghalaya Hosts Culinary Cascade at Ward’s Lake, Showcasing Indigenous Cuisine and Food Economy

Shillong, March 27: Meghalaya is hosting the latest edition of Culinary Cascade on March 27 and 28 at Ward’s Lake in Shillong, bringing together food, culture and local enterprise in a two-day public event.

Organised by the state’s tourism department in collaboration with Meghalayan Age Limited, the festival aims to promote indigenous cuisine while supporting farmers, food entrepreneurs and small businesses across the state.

The event is being held alongside SEETI Meghalaya, a six-day cultural initiative that began on March 26. As part of the combined programming, visitors are being offered curated dining experiences under the “SEETI Table” concept.

Over recent years, Culinary Cascade has developed into a key tourism platform focused on strengthening Meghalaya’s food economy and expanding market access for local producers. This year’s edition features food exhibitions, chef-led sessions, product launches and interactive installations aimed at showcasing the region’s culinary heritage.

A major highlight is the “Food Museum”, designed to present traditional food practices through live demonstrations, digital exhibits and curated storytelling, offering insight into the diversity of indigenous food systems in the state.

The festival features cuisine from Khasi, Jaintia and Garo communities, alongside contemporary interpretations, street food offerings, and locally produced beverages and artisanal products.

Authorities view the event as part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable tourism and generate economic opportunities linked to agriculture and food production, reinforcing Meghalaya’s positioning as a distinctive cultural destination.
