Meghalaya Police Recruitment: CM Conrad Sangma Hands Over Appointment Letters to Nearly 3,000 Personnel

Shillong, March 6: Conrad K. Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, distributed appointment letters to nearly 3,000 newly recruited personnel of the Meghalaya Police on March 5, describing the initiative as a significant move to strengthen law enforcement and governance in the state.

Speaking at a programme in Tura, Sangma said the occasion marked a historic milestone, calling it one of the largest recruitment exercises ever undertaken in the state. He noted that the government considers the recruitment drive a matter of pride and emphasized that the entire process was carried out in a transparent and merit-based manner. According to the Chief Minister, the recruitment received an overwhelming response with more than 1.7 lakh candidates applying for various posts. From this large pool of applicants, nearly 3,000 candidates were selected and formally issued appointment letters.

Officials stated that the recruitment drive filled 2,968 vacancies across a wide range of technical and service-related roles within the police force. The appointments include 1,494 Armed Branch Constables and related positions, 720 Unarmed Branch Constables, 205 Multipurpose Response Operators and 195 firemen. The recruitment also covered several other roles such as UBSI, Driver Fireman, Driver Constable, as well as operator and mechanic positions.

During his address, Sangma highlighted the critical role played by the police in maintaining law and order, stressing that peace and stability are essential for development. He said that progress cannot take place without a stable environment and urged the newly recruited personnel to perform their duties with discipline, fairness and integrity.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that the state government is approaching eight years in office, during which nearly 11,000 appointments and recruitments have been made across different sectors, reflecting the administration’s efforts to strengthen public institutions.

Earlier in the programme, Idashisha Nongrang, Director General of Police of Meghalaya, welcomed the dignitaries and the newly recruited personnel. The event began with a ceremonial salami and felicitation of guests, after which appointment letters were formally handed over in the presence of senior government and police officials.
