North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Little Star Higher Secondary School and O.M. Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School were crowned champions in their respective categories as the State-Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026 concluded at the SSA Stadium in Shillong on July 25.
Organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the five-day championship brought together school teams from across Meghalaya in the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Boys and Under-17 Girls categories. The title winners have earned the right to represent the state at the national-level Subroto Mukherjee Cup.
North Liberty Higher Secondary School from West Jaintia Hills lifted the Under-15 Boys trophy with a 2-1 victory over Umpohliew Jingtip Higher Secondary School of East Khasi Hills. Kyrshanlang Chyrmang gave North Liberty the lead in the 19th minute, while Malcolm Nongbsap doubled the advantage a minute later. Umpohliew Jingtip pulled one back in the 43rd minute through Meshanskhem Kharbudon, but North Liberty held on to secure the title.
In the Under-17 Girls category, Little Star Higher Secondary School of Eastern West Khasi Hills emerged victorious after edging past North Liberty Higher Secondary School 4-1 in a penalty shootout. The final had ended goalless in regulation time before the champions prevailed from the spot.
O.M. Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School of East Khasi Hills dominated the Under-17 Boys final, defeating Wapung Higher Secondary School of East Jaintia Hills 3-0. Deiwamut Syiem scored twice, finding the net in the 21st and 69th minutes, while Chesterfield Umsong added the second goal in the 43rd minute to complete a convincing win.
The tournament also recognised outstanding individual performances. Fairland Nengnong of Umpohliew Jingtip Higher Secondary School, Joplin Thongni of Little Star Higher Secondary School and Redimingson Phawa of Wapung Higher Secondary School received the Best Goalkeeper awards in the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Girls and Under-17 Boys categories respectively.
Player of the Tournament honours went to Inibait Lamare of North Liberty Higher Secondary School in the Under-15 Boys category, Jessica Myrthong of Little Star Higher Secondary School in the Under-17 Girls category and Ebenezer Sun of O.M. Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School in the Under-17 Boys category.
The tournament concluded with a prize distribution ceremony at the SSA Stadium, officially bringing the state competition to a close and confirming Meghalaya’s representatives for the upcoming national-level Subroto Mukherjee Cup.
