Shillong: Meghalaya batter Akash Chaudhary, who stunned cricket fans with eight consecutive sixes and an 11-ball half-century in a Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh, has credited his record-breaking blitz to a clear and simple instruction from his coach — to go all out before the team’s declaration.
“We had to declare quickly, that’s why the coach messaged us to go and attack,” the 25-year-old told reporters after his explosive innings. “That gave me the licence to play openly. It was a lucky day for me that I got good shots. My intentions are always right — I always give 100% in cricket. The result will come by itself.”
Akash, who has emerged as one of Meghalaya’s most promising talents, said discipline and integrity remain central to his approach. “I always strive to give my best for the team. Whatever the situation, I just try to contribute fully,” he said.
Speaking beyond his personal achievement, the young batter expressed heartfelt pride over India’s recent Women’s World Cup victory, describing it as a defining moment for Indian cricket. “I am feeling very proud; I had tears in my eyes after watching the video,” he shared. “Now women’s cricket will go much further. Even in our state, girls will play at the grassroots level, and we can’t be prouder of our women’s cricket.”
Chaudhary’s remarks reflected both his humility and optimism — celebrating a personal milestone while recognising the broader inspiration that cricket continues to offer across the country.
