Imphal, July 17: The Apex Committee of Meitei IDPs Manipur has urged the government to immediately release the pending Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs), alleging that beneficiaries have not received the financial support for more than 15 days.
In a press release issued on July 16, the committee said the delay has caused significant financial hardship for thousands of displaced families who depend on the monthly assistance to meet their basic needs.
The committee stated that the DBT support is crucial for covering expenses such as food, children’s education, healthcare and other household requirements. It claimed that the delay has left many families struggling to manage their day-to-day expenses.
Appealing for immediate action, the organisation urged the government to clear the pending DBT payments within the next three days so that affected families can meet their urgent financial needs.
The committee also requested the authorities to implement a fixed disbursement schedule from next month, proposing that the monthly assistance be credited on the first day of every month. It said a predictable payment system would enable displaced families to better plan their finances and reduce uncertainty.
The Apex Committee called on the concerned authorities to prioritise the welfare of internally displaced persons and ensure the timely and regular release of financial assistance.
