Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Drive Held Near Chandmari Slums in Guwahati

Guwahati, May 28: A menstrual hygiene awareness and distribution drive was organised by Maa Annapurna Trust India near the Chandmari slums in Guwahati on May 28 to mark Menstrual Hygiene Day and promote awareness on menstrual health and hygiene among underserved communities.

The initiative focused on improving access to basic hygiene necessities while encouraging awareness about menstrual health, dignity and women’s empowerment. Members, volunteers and supporters of the organisation participated in the programme.

As part of the drive, free sanitary napkins were distributed among women and adolescent girls from economically weaker sections to support better menstrual hygiene management.

The programme also featured awareness sessions on hygienic menstrual practices, proper use of sanitary products and eco-friendly disposal methods. Organisers stressed the importance of breaking social stigma surrounding menstruation and encouraging open discussions on menstrual health to support the education and well-being of young girls.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Podder, founder of Maa Annapurna Trust India, thanked participants and supporters for contributing to the success of the initiative. He said the organisation would continue conducting awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes focusing on women’s health, dignity and empowerment.

The organisers stated that the initiative reflected a collective effort towards promoting awareness, restoring dignity and encouraging sustainable community empowerment.
