MHA Alerts States Over Possible Communal Fallout After US-Israel Strikes on Iran

National, March 2: The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all state governments to remain on high alert for potential communal disturbances following US and Israeli military strikes on Iran.

In a letter dated February 28, the ministry flagged possible “ripple effects” from the escalating tensions in the Middle East, cautioning that inflammatory speeches at religious gatherings could trigger unrest within the country. The advisory called on state authorities to closely monitor individuals delivering provocative sermons and to take swift preventive measures to avert any breakdown of law and order.

It also emphasised enhanced intelligence sharing between central and state agencies to detect and neutralise emerging threats at an early stage.

The alert comes in the backdrop of a joint US-Israel operation targeting Iranian cities and military installations, which has heightened fears of a broader regional conflict. India has meanwhile urged restraint from all sides and reiterated the importance of safeguarding its citizens, particularly those residing in Gulf nations.

Officials in New Delhi are concerned that extremist elements could attempt to exploit global developments to inflame local sensitivities. Security experts have underlined the need for firm but balanced handling, noting that vigilance and proactive policing are essential to maintaining communal harmony at this critical juncture.
