Shillong: The search for seven-year-old Kyrshanbor Kharmudai, who went missing from Lummarboh Block-4 in Nongrah, ended in heartbreak on Thursday after his body was discovered near NEIGRIHMS, Mawpat.
The tragic discovery came a day after an extensive community-led search operation was launched when the boy disappeared around 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Residents, village leaders, and police personnel from Rynjah Police Station joined forces, combing the nearby forested areas late into the night. According to the village head, almost the entire community participated in the search effort.

Kyrshanbor, an orphan living under the care of his aunt, was last seen playing outside their home before he went missing. His aunt told reporters that she had called him in for tea, but when he did not return, she began searching for him. After failing to locate him, she alerted the local authorities, prompting the widespread operation.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death. CCTV footage from the vicinity is being examined to trace any possible leads.

The incident has reignited fear and grief in the Nongrah area, which recently witnessed a similar case involving another missing child found dead. Residents have urged authorities to strengthen safety measures and surveillance to protect children in the locality.
