Guwahati: Assam Mahila Congress President Mira Borthakur Goswami has raised serious concerns over the ongoing investigation into the death of singer Zubeen Garg, questioning the transparency of the SIT and CID’s handling of the case.
“There is no satisfaction in this investigation,” Borthakur said, adding that while the SIT and CID are conducting their inquiries, political statements from top leaders are influencing public perception. “If the head minister speaks for the SIT or against the CID, then what does that mean? Don’t we have to question the SIT’s credibility?” she asked.
Criticizing the alleged leakage of the “grounds of arrest,” she said such disclosures are “an insult not only to Zubeen Garg but to his fans across the world.” Borthakur added, “How he died in the sea is not the issue. What matters is that the doctor had advised him not to go into the water — who took him there and why he was left behind must be investigated.”
She also questioned the handling of key evidence, including what she described as “the signature of Rosy Kalita” related to the arrest documentation, calling it “a very sad matter.”
Appealing directly to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Borthakur said, “We have faith in the SIT and trust the High Court, but please do not politicize this case. We only seek justice for Zubeen Garg.”
She concluded, “If justice is done, it belongs to everyone — but if it isn’t, where does that responsibility fall? This issue is beyond politics; it’s about truth and dignity.”
