Mising, Rabha and Tiwa groups welcome appointment of interlocutor

Dhakuakhana, Oct 15: Representatives of the Mising, Rabha and Tiwa communities have welcomed the Centre’s appointment of a interlocutor to examine their long-standing demand for constitutional safeguards and the inclusion of their autonomous councils under the Sixth Schedule.

At a press conference organised jointly by the Dhakuakhana district committees of TMPK, MMK and TMMK at the Dhakuakhana Press Guild, the organisations said the Ministry of Home Affairs appointed retired IPS officer L.R. The organisations expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, Assam Chief Minister, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and the Central and state governments for the initiative. Their leaders voiced optimism that the appointment would help advance their demands towards a resolution.

Those present included TMPK president Sultan Patir and secretary Biswajit Kumbang, TMMK president Chitra Doley and secretary Monalisha Patir, and MMK president Hiteswar Sungkurang and secretary Amrit Doley.
