Even as fans across India celebrated Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s 60th birthday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stirred conversations online with a statement that echoed one of SRK’s most famous movie lines — but with a very different intent.
Taking to social media, the Chief Minister declared, “Miyabhai ki daring won’t work in Assam,” a phrase reminiscent of the actor’s dialogue from Raees. However, Sarma’s remark was aimed not at cinema but at a recent law enforcement operation that saw 16 illegal Bangladeshi migrants apprehended for allegedly crossing into Assam with “nefarious intentions.”
Emphasising the state’s zero-tolerance policy on illegal infiltration, Sarma stated, “Assam is not a place for illegal entrants. We will find you, catch you, and deport you.” He also lauded the police and security agencies for their prompt and coordinated action in pushing back the infiltrators.
The remark quickly went viral, with netizens drawing attention to its timing — coinciding with Shah Rukh Khan’s milestone birthday — and its dramatic, cinematic tone. Officials later confirmed that all 16 detained individuals were booked under the Foreigners Act, and investigations are ongoing to identify the network facilitating such illegal crossings.
Known for his sharp political rhetoric and flair for headline-making one-liners, Chief Minister Sarma once again blended pop culture and politics — turning a popular Bollywood catchphrase into a powerful political statement.
