Mizoram CM Lalduhoma Claims ‘Divine Transformation’ as ZPM Government Highlights Governance Gains

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma said a “divine transformation” is underway in Mizoram, asserting that long-standing public expectations are beginning to be fulfilled under the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government since it assumed office in December 2023.

Speaking at a party function in Aizawl, Lalduhoma highlighted progress in pension settlements, central funding inflows and rural development as key indicators of administrative performance. He said issues that were once raised during the party’s time in opposition are now being addressed through governance.

Framing the developments in spiritual terms, the chief minister referenced the Biblical phrase “But by my spirit”, stating that outcomes achieved by the government reflect forces beyond conventional political effort. He cited initiatives such as the relocation of the Assam Rifles base and efforts related to raising a territorial army as examples of what he described as a broader transformation aligned with the ZPM’s vision of a “new system of governance”.

On administrative delivery, Lalduhoma said the government has disbursed ₹258.92 crore in General Provident Fund payments since taking office. He contrasted this with the previous Mizo National Front administration, stating that while it had settled 974 pensions, the current government has cleared over 24,000 pending cases.

The chief minister also pointed to an improvement in the state’s financial position despite its earlier classification as one of India’s most indebted states. He noted that Mizoram secured ₹350 crore from the Centre and ranked fifth in projected allocations under the 16th Finance Commission for the next five years.

Highlighting rural development, Lalduhoma said the government has secured ₹362 crore in rural local body grants, including pending instalments, compared to ₹34.5 crore accessed by the previous administration for 2021–22. He further alleged that lapses by the MNF-led Aizawl Municipal Corporation had put urban grants at risk, adding that timely intervention by the state government prevented ₹28.76 crore from lapsing.

The chief minister maintained that these developments reflect a shift in governance priorities under the ZPM, positioning them as part of a broader transformation rather than routine administrative outcomes.
