Mizoram Gets Own NCC Group Headquarters, Boosting Youth Development and National Integration

Aizawl, Jan 29: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Mizoram Group Headquarters on January 29, marking a key step in giving the state full administrative control over its NCC operations, which were previously managed under Assam State. The move is set to strengthen youth development initiatives and provide a dedicated platform for character building across Mizoram.

The inauguration, held at the Chief Minister’s office, was attended by Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister for Sports and Youth Services; Major General Anurag Vij, Additional Director General, NCC North Eastern Region; and Brigadier GS Arora, Commander, Group Headquarters, Aizawl. The ceremony was followed by a meeting of ministers and senior NCC officers to chart the way forward for the organisation in the state.

Addressing the gathering, Lalduhoma highlighted the need for structured youth platforms to counter growing substance abuse and provide opportunities for young people to develop leadership and civic skills. “Disciplined and committed youth should be given more avenues to demonstrate their potential. The new headquarters will help expand such opportunities across Mizoram,” he said.

Major General Vij underlined the NCC’s core mission of cultivating responsible, disciplined, and socially conscious citizens, while promoting healthy lifestyles. He also emphasised enhancing national integration by increasing inter-state exposure for Northeast youth, who, despite being regarded as capable, are sometimes perceived as less connected with the rest of India. “We congratulate the Mizoram government for establishing the group headquarters, which will support these goals,” he added.

Officials noted that long-term infrastructure is essential for sustained operations. They said the NCC can build its own facilities on state-provided land under a long-term lease arrangement, without permanent land transfer.

Currently, Mizoram has four NCC units with around 8,000 cadets. The new group headquarters is expected to significantly expand NCC activities and outreach, providing a stronger framework for youth engagement, skill development, and national integration across the state.
