Mizoram Nears Peace Pact With HPC(D) Sanate Faction, Says CM Lalduhoma

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday (December 5) said the state government is nearing a peace agreement with the Lalhmingthanga Sanate faction of the Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic), signalling a major step toward restoring stability in Hmar-dominated areas. Speaking at the general assembly of the Hmar Students’ Association (HSA) during the Sikpui Ruoi festival in Kolasib district, the Chief Minister said negotiations were progressing to reintegrate the faction’s cadres into mainstream society.

Lalduhoma expressed optimism that the agreement would help bring lasting peace to regions affected by the faction’s activities. The Sanate group, which is primarily active in neighbouring Assam’s Cachar district, has been linked to incidents of extortion and other criminal operations in Mizoram. The proposed pact follows the 2018 peace accord with another faction of the HPC(D), which paved the way for the creation of the Sinlung Hills Council (SHC) for Hmar-inhabited areas in northeastern Mizoram.

Addressing the gathering, Lalduhoma urged the Hmar community, one of the major tribes in the state, to continue fostering unity among diverse tribal groups. He praised the HSA for its consistent contributions to education, cultural promotion and social harmony over the years.

Outlining the government’s development agenda, the Chief Minister highlighted that farmers’ welfare remains a key focus under the ‘Bana Kaih’ initiative. He added that several new employment opportunities have been created over the past two years under the Zoram People’s Movement government. Lalduhoma was accompanied by Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama and Revenue Minister B Lalchhanzova, underscoring the administration’s commitment to peace-building and inclusive development.
