Mizoram rolls out online border checkpost system for faster entry tax collection

Mizoram is set to introduce an online border checkpost module to streamline and speed up entry tax collection from commercial vehicles entering the state, a senior official announced on Monday.

State Transport Director R. Lalrammawia said the digital system, developed with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), has been completed and deployed on a live server. He noted that the module would ease vehicular movement and reduce administrative delays at border points.

The system will first be implemented at the Vairengte enforcement check gate on the Mizoram–Assam border and at the Kanhmun check gate along the state’s border with Tripura—two of the busiest entry points for commercial traffic.

Once operational, Mizoram will become the 28th state to adopt a virtual border checkpost mechanism. Officials said the initiative is expected to minimise manual intervention, cut waiting time for transporters, and bring greater transparency to tax collection processes.
