Mizoram Speaker Inaugurates ‘Tlaizawng Paradise’ Event to Promote Tourism in Saitual

Aizawl, Jan 7: Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama on January 6 inaugurated a two-day tourism festival titled Tlaizawng Paradise at Phuaibuang village in Saitual district, marking a fresh push by the state to promote eco-tourism, strengthen the local economy and encourage conservation of natural resources. The event has been designed to showcase the scenic landscapes and ecological richness of the region while drawing visitors to lesser-known destinations in Mizoram.

Addressing the inaugural gathering, Lalbiakzama said the initiative aims to position Phuaibuang and its surrounding areas as attractive tourism destinations by highlighting their natural beauty and biodiversity. He stressed that sustained growth of the tourism sector would depend on unity, cooperation and active participation of local communities, adding that tourism should develop in harmony with nature rather than at its cost.

One of the key attractions of the event is the seasonal cherry blossom, locally called Tlaizawng, which blooms across Phuaibuang and neighbouring areas and has increasingly emerged as a visual draw for visitors. Organisers said the blossom season offers a unique opportunity to promote nature-based tourism while creating awareness about the need to preserve the fragile ecosystem.

The programme includes a range of adventure tourism activities such as cave exploration, mountain trekking and mass angling. On the opening day, a mega angling event was organised in the Tuivai river near Phuaibuang village, attracting around 600 participants, officials said.

Alongside adventure activities, the festival is also providing a platform for local artisans and performers. Traditional handicraft and handloom products are on display at the Phuaibuang playground, while cultural programmes and musical performances are adding to the festive atmosphere and offering visitors a glimpse into the region’s heritage.

Officials said Tlaizawng Paradise is expected to boost eco-tourism in the area while generating livelihood opportunities for local residents, reinforcing the link between sustainable tourism and community development.
