Mizoram’s Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) will implement the National Education Policy (NEP) starting in the 2027-28 academic session and launch a weekly “Mizo Speaking Day” across its jurisdiction. Announced on Monday following an educational administration meeting at the council headquarters in Kamalanagar, the reforms aim to align local schooling with state frameworks while promoting regional language proficiency.
Under the new initiatives, all primary and middle schools within the Lawngtlai district council area will dedicate every Wednesday to helping students learn and practice the Mizo language. To further support student development and focus, the council will also mandate 10 minutes of ‘Anapana’ meditation every Friday.
Local education boards are currently drafting detailed guidelines to ensure a smooth transition to the NEP in accordance with the broader Mizoram government standards. Alongside these classroom changes, the CADC is finalizing new regulations for the transfer and posting of elementary school teachers by mid-October and plans to launch a comprehensive systematic literacy program, pending executive approval and funding.
