MNF Takes Early Lead as Counting Progresses in Lai Autonomous District Council Elections

The Mizo National Front (MNF) has taken an early lead in the ongoing counting of votes for the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) elections, emerging ahead of Congress, BJP and the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), which is yet to open its account.

Initial trends show MNF candidates performing strongly across several constituencies. In Bazar Bial, Glory Lalropuia Chinzah secured 633 votes, defeating Congress nominee J. Rohlupuia, who received 568, while ZPM’s Rev Vanlalzauva finished with 190. The party also maintained its edge in Diltiang South Bial, where H.C. Lalthawmliana polled 821 votes, staying ahead of ZPM’s F. Lallungrual, who garnered 752, and Congress candidate Vanlalnghaka, who obtained 522.

BJP registered a win in Sangau East as BN Thangpuia secured 823 votes, with ZPM’s Lianhrangvela trailing at 609. Meanwhile, Congress gained ground in Lawngtlai Vengpui, where C. Ngunlianchunga led with 1,022 votes, leaving MNF’s V.L. Hmuaka with 584 and ZPM’s Lallawmsanga with 211.

Congress continued its momentum in Chawngte P, where H. Lalengkima topped the tally with 754 votes. MNF’s Andrew Laltlanzara received 504, followed by ZPM’s S. Lalnunsanga with 235 and BJP’s Vanlalhruaii Vandir with 67. MNF further strengthened its position in Chanmari Bial, where C. Lalsawmzuala crossed 953 votes, ahead of independent candidate Hrilisangzuala, who finished with 823, and ZPM’s F. Lalluia, who secured 356.

In Sangau South, MNF’s J.B. Vanhawi took the lead with 779 votes, outpacing ZPM candidate K. Pathiaua, who received 664.

With MNF now leading in four constituencies, followed by Congress in two and BJP in one, the race continues to unfold. ZPM has yet to mark its presence in the tally as counting remains underway. Final results are expected as counting progresses through the day.
