Mob Attacks Police Team in Hailakandi, Driver Injured During Family Dispute Intervention

Hailakandi: A police driver was injured after a mob attacked a security team that had gone to resolve a quarrel between two families in Assam’s Hailakandi district on Saturday, officials said.

According to Hailakandi Senior Superintendent of Police Amitava Sinha, the incident took place in Abdullahpur village following an altercation over the plantation of betel nut trees. “Police were informed about the dispute, and a team went there to settle it. When they reached the village, some people threw stones at them,” Sinha said.

During the attack, the mob smashed the front and rear windshields of the police vehicle, injuring the driver, who was later taken for medical treatment.

Additional police forces were deployed to control the situation. “We apprehended 10 culprits, and investigation is underway to trace others involved,” the SSP added.

Authorities have confirmed that peace has since been restored in Abdullahpur, and the situation remains under control.
