Imphal, May 1: Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on May 1 congratulated young weightlifter N Tomchou Meitei for setting a new record in the 60 kg category at the Commonwealth Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship held in Apia, Samoa.
In his message, Singh praised Meitei’s “outstanding performance,” noting that the athlete lifted 117 kg in the snatch and 150 kg in the clean and jerk, achieving a combined total of 267 kg.
“Your achievement has brought immense pride to Manipur and the nation,” Singh stated, while wishing the young lifter continued success in his sporting career.
Meitei’s record-setting performance is being viewed as a significant milestone for Indian weightlifting on the international stage, drawing appreciation from across the sporting community.
