A massive landslide struck Mon town in Nagaland on Sunday, July 19, leaving at least six people feared dead, including four women, while causing widespread destruction in an area reportedly located below the Assam Rifles camp.
According to preliminary information, several people are believed to remain trapped beneath the debris as rescue teams continue search and rescue operations.
The landslide reportedly buried or swept away more than 10 houses, including reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structures, causing extensive damage to residential properties.
The incident occurred amid persistent heavy rainfall that has lashed the region, increasing the risk of landslides. Rescue efforts have been slowed by unstable ground conditions, fresh mudslides and fast-flowing water, making it difficult for emergency personnel and equipment to reach the affected area.
Local authorities and rescue agencies are continuing operations under challenging conditions to locate survivors and assess the full extent of the damage. However, officials have not yet confirmed the casualty toll or disclosed the number of people who may still be missing.
