DIMAPUR: Police in Nagaland’s Dimapur seized 19,760 bottles of suspected codeine-based cough syrup during a raid on a warehouse at Jain Temple Road in Marwari Patti, officials said.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a team from the suburban police station searched the locked warehouse after repeated attempts to contact its tenant went unanswered. The operation was authorised and supervised by the ACP (West) and carried out in the presence of independent witnesses, with the entire procedure digitally recorded through the e-Sakshya platform.
Police recovered 126 cartons, including 101 cartons containing 16,160 bottles of Bescod Cough Syrup and 25 cartons containing 3,600 bottles of EB-DYL Cough Syrup. Several other pharmaceutical products that were not accounted for were also seized for verification.
A suo motu case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Police are investigating those operating the warehouse and tracing the suspected supply and distribution network.
