Nagaland has received ₹4.78 crore from the North Eastern Council (NEC) in November to drive a series of development initiatives across key sectors, including tourism, youth and sports infrastructure, and indigenous cultural programmes. The release formed part of the NEC’s monthly disbursement aimed at accelerating project execution across the northeastern states, according to an official statement issued on December 9.
The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and the NEC Secretariat in Shillong reported that a total of ₹56.22 crore was allocated to the eight northeastern states last month. The funds are intended to bolster infrastructure creation, livelihood promotion, cultural activities, research, innovation-led projects and other region-specific interventions. Officials said the NEC’s focus remains on timely fund flow and strengthened coordination with state agencies to ensure effective implementation.
For Nagaland, the council highlighted support for a broad spectrum of priority sectors, ranging from agriculture and tourism to education, culture, heritage, skill development and livelihood schemes. Several ongoing programmes are expected to benefit from the latest grant, reinforcing the state’s development momentum.
Alongside state-level allocations, the NEC also released ₹14.89 crore to various central agencies and cultural bodies to back regional events, academic engagements and cross-border knowledge initiatives. The council pointed to a number of important interventions undertaken in November, including projects for indigenous community development, animal feed production, scientific pig breeding, piggery value-chain infrastructure, documentation of traditional medicinal practices, and the expansion of tele-education through smart virtual classrooms. Support for sports infrastructure in Manipur was also part of the same tranche.
The NEC further reported the completion of a major fire-safety and skill training initiative sanctioned in March 2023. The project includes the installation of rainwater harvesting reservoirs in Dimapur and Khuzama, along with infrastructure development at a skill training centre in Chiechama. The effort aims to enhance fire safety preparedness while creating structured training avenues for youth aspiring to join emergency and disaster-response services.
With targeted funding and enhanced coordination, officials believe the NEC’s sustained support is helping states like Nagaland build stronger foundations for economic growth, cultural preservation and community resilience.
