Nagaon bypoll: Pijush Hazarika votes in Jagiroad, backs Debashish Sharma

Assam Minister and BJP leader Pijush Hazarika cast his vote at Morakolong LP School in the 52 No. Jagiroad SC (LAC) constituency on Tuesday as polling continued for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election.

After voting, Hazarika said he expected the BJP to secure a substantial lead in the Jagiroad assembly segment and backed party candidate Debashish Sharma to win the bypoll.

“Of the total vote polled in Jagiroad constituency, I assume, we will get 80-85 per cent vote. Considering that, we would be able to give a massive lead to Debashish Sharma from Jagiroad constituency and I am confident that Debashish Sharma will surely win the polls,” Hazarika said.

Turnout across the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency stood at 37.82 per cent by 11 am.

Laharighat recorded the highest turnout among the eight Assembly segments at 42.49 per cent, followed by Samaguri at 40.39 per cent, Rupohihat at 39.62 per cent and Dhing at 38.48 per cent.

Jagiroad recorded 37.06 per cent turnout and Morigaon 37.25 per cent. Raha registered 34.35 per cent, while Nagaon-Batadroba recorded the lowest turnout at 30.54 per cent.

The by-election was necessitated by the vacancy in the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat, with the BJP, Congress and other parties campaigning across the constituency.
