Nagaon University hosts district level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament–2026

Nagaon: Nagaon University hosted the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament–2026 at its premises with remarkable enthusiasm and active participation of students. The programme received an overwhelming response, as over 350 students registered online through the My Bharat Portal, while over 100 participants attended in person and took part in the vibrant deliberations. The theme for this year’s Youth Parliament, “50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy,” set the tone for a serious and reflective discussion. Participants revisited the period of the Emergency and examined its long-term implications for democratic institutions, civil liberties, and constitutional governance in India. The discussions reflected maturity, awareness, and a strong sense of democratic responsibility among the youth.

         The session was presided over by Dr Tosheswar Nath, former Vice Principal of Nowgong College (Autonomous) and former President of the Governing Body of Nowgong Girls’ College, Nagaon, whose experience and academic insight enriched the proceedings. The jury panel comprised Dr Akshay Jyoti Sarma, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science at Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai; Dr Mohini Mohan Deka, retired Vice Principal of Dimoria College; senior advocate Saranga Ballav Goswami and youth leader Lakhi Ranjan Kakati. Their collective evaluation and thoughtful observations added depth and credibility to the event.

        The programme was skilfully compared and coordinated by Jassi Kaur, Debate Secretary of the Nagaon University Students’ Union, who anchored the session with confidence and ensured the smooth flow of the proceedings. Dr Bhuban Ch Chutia briefed the dignitaries and participants about the vision of Nagaon University and the objectives of the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament initiative, emphasizing its role in promoting democratic awareness among students. In his welcome address, Dr Hitesh Deka, Vice Chancellor of Nagaon University, underscored the importance of such academic exercises in shaping informed and responsible citizens. He highlighted that participation in parliamentary simulations strengthens critical thinking, communication skills, and overall personality development. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Bhuban Ch. Chutia, who expressed sincere appreciation to the chairperson, jury members, participants, and organizers for their wholehearted cooperation in making the event a success.
