Itanagar, April 3: In a sustained drive against drug trafficking, police in the Itanagar Capital Region seized 31 vials of heroin and arrested two individuals allegedly involved in transporting contraband, officials said.
The operation was carried out by a team from ICR Naharlagun Police following specific intelligence inputs received on April 2. The raid was led by Inspector Tadu Hassang, Officer-in-Charge of Nirjuli Police Station, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Dr Nyelam Nega.
Acting on the inputs, the police team intercepted a TVS NTORQ scooty without a registration number at Viaduct Bridge in Dikrong, Nirjuli. Two individuals — Khyoda Tama (24) and Bamang Raju (29), both residents of Itanagar in Papum Pare district — were apprehended at the scene.
A search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses led to the recovery of 31 vials of heroin weighing 39.96 grams, including the container weight. The contraband, along with the vehicle used for transportation, was seized in accordance with legal procedures.
Police have registered a case at Nirjuli Police Station under Case No. 18/26, invoking Sections 21(b) and 27 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to identify the supply network and any additional links connected to the case.
Officials reiterated their commitment to intensifying action against drug-related activities and maintaining a drug-free environment in the region.
