Namrup Town Club Wins Opening Qualifying Match of OIL INDIA Gold Cup 2025

Duliajan: The first qualifying match of the 8th Edition of the OIL INDIA Gold Cup Football Tournament kicked off today at the playground of Zaloni Tea Estate, Tipling Division, Duliajan. The match witnessed a face-off between Baitho Rigi Rigam Sports Club (BRRSC) and Namrup Town Club, with Namrup Town Club emerging victorious with a score of 6-3.

Before the inauguration of the match, OIL officials, along with members of the organizing committee and others present, paid a heartfelt tribute to Zubeen Garg — the heart-throb of Assam — whose music continues to inspire and unite millions. The match was inaugurated in the presence of Shyamal Prasad Das, CGM (HRE), OIL; Diganta Kumar Borah, GM (PA), OIL;  Devojit Basumatary, GM (HRE), OIL, along with other officials from Oil India Limited and Zaloni Tea Estate; participating teams; and media persons.

Displaying remarkable skill and sportsmanship, Nockchian Wangnow (Jersey No. 19), Namrup Town Club was adjudged the Man of the Match.  

Organised by Oil India Limited (OIL) under the technical guidance of the Assam Football Association (AFA), affiliated with the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the OIL INDIA Gold Cup Football Tournament marks the revival of one of Assam’s most prestigious football events.

The qualifying rounds, being held from October 11 to 16, 2025, will determine the top two teams that will advance to join five national-level and four state-level teams in the main round at Nehru Maidan, Duliajan, later this month. Tomorrow, 12 October 2025, Duliajan Football Academy will face Baruahola Football Academy, Panitola in the next qualifying match.
