National Farmer’s Day Observed at ICAR-ATARI, Guwahati

Guwahati: National Farmer’s Day was observed at the ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone VI, Guwahati on December 23, 2025, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, former Prime Minister of India and a strong advocate of farmers’ welfare.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. G. Kadirvel, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, highlighted the significance of National Farmer’s Day, which is celebrated every year to recognise the invaluable contribution of farmers to national food security and rural development. He explained the objectives of the observance, stressing the importance of acknowledging farmers’ efforts while promoting sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices.

Dr. Kadirvel elaborated on various farmer-centric initiatives undertaken by ICAR, emphasising the need for timely access to technology, skill development and institutional support to enhance farm productivity and farmers’ income. He laid special focus on empowering small and marginal farmers through capacity building, frontline demonstrations and convergence of developmental schemes.

The Director also provided an overview of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB–GRAMG] Act, 2025, highlighting its role in strengthening rural livelihoods through targeted interventions, improved access to resources and capacity building, thereby contributing to rural prosperity.

The programme was further enriched by the presence of Dr. Anil Kumar Yadav, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Guwahati, who shared his insights on the relevance of National Farmer’s Day. Scientists, consultants and staff of ICAR-ATARI, Guwahati actively participated in the observance.
