National Immunisation Day Drive Launched in Udalguri, Targets Over 1 Lakh Children

Udalguri, June 29: National Immunisation Day (NID) was launched in Assam’s Udalguri district on Sunday as part of the nationwide pulse polio campaign aimed at protecting children below the age of five against poliomyelitis.

The three-day immunisation drive, which will continue until June 30, was inaugurated by Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Executive Member for Health Ek Fresh Musahary at the Udalguri Block Primary Health Centre.

The inaugural programme was attended by State Observer Dr Runu Bala Das, Joint Director of Health Dr Mukhtar Hussain, District Immunisation Officer Dr Ajanta Bordoloi, National Health Mission District Programme Manager Nomal Sing Borgoyari and other health officials.

Health authorities said the campaign aims to administer oral polio vaccine drops to all children from birth to five years of age. A total of 1,02,800 children are expected to be covered across the district.

On the opening day, immunisation is being conducted through 684 vaccination booths established across Udalguri.

During the remaining two days of the campaign, teams comprising Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), ASHA workers, ASHA supervisors and Anganwadi workers will undertake door-to-door visits to ensure that every eligible child receives the oral polio vaccine.

Officials said the campaign forms part of India’s sustained efforts to maintain its polio-free status through universal immunisation coverage.
