Guwahati: The 2nd National Conference on Cyber Security, Digital Forensics & Intelligence (NCCDFI 2025) was inaugurated today at the B.K.B. Auditorium, Gauhati University. The two-day national event is being organised by NIELIT Assam & Nagaland under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), in association with Assam Police and Gauhati University, and supported by the Department of IT, Government of Assam and the United Service Institution of India. The theme for this year is “Cyber Secure Bharat: Fortifying India’s Digital Future.”
NIELIT, a premier institution under MeitY with 56 Centres across India—including 22 in the Northeast—has been playing a central role in digital skilling, cybersecurity capacity building, and emerging technology education. Recently conferred Deemed-to-be University status, NIELIT now provides a full academic pathway from foundational training to Ph.D.-level research in alignment with NEP 2020.
The inauguration was attended by L. Lanuwabang, Director, NIELIT Assam & Nagaland; K.S. Gopinath Narayan, Principal Secretary, IT, Assam; Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University; Surendra Kumar, ADGP, Assam; Keshri Kumar Asthana, CTO – Public Sector, Microsoft; and Sandesh Jadhav, Global Data Privacy Officer, Wipro.

In his welcome address, Lanuwabang highlighted the importance of expanding the conference from Kohima to Guwahati to ensure broader participation. He stressed the urgent need for advanced cyber training, forensic labs, coordinated investigations, and multi-agency collaboration, describing cybersecurity as a “national mission.”
Speakers noted India’s rising cyber threats, with Microsoft’s Asthana citing 1.3 million cyber incidents last year. Prof. Mahanta announced new academic programs in AI, Cybersecurity, Cybercrime Investigation, and Semiconductor Technology, offered jointly with NIELIT.
A major attraction is the Cyber Security & Digital Forensics Exhibition, featuring cutting-edge tools such as AI-enabled cybersecurity platforms, deepfake detectors, ransomware analysis systems, and digital evidence management suites.

With 30+ expert speakers and over 300 delegates, NCCDFI 2025 reflects the Northeast’s growing commitment to digital resilience. The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Santanu Borgohain, Additional Director, NIELIT Guwahati.
