Guwahati: The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) Regional Office, Guwahati, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of India, organized a district-level awareness programme on Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Fisheries & Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) and LINAC-NCDC Fisheries Business Incubation Center (LIFIC) at Jyoti Sanskritik Bhaban, Abhayapuri, Bongaigaon, on Wednesday.
The Fisheries Department, Government of Assam, and the Cooperation Department, Assam, extended support in successfully conducting the programme, which witnessed the participation of over 300 beneficiaries, including members of fisheries societies, FFPO cooperatives, individual fishermen, progressive fish farmers, and officials.

Key speakers included Bapon Kalita, DFDO, Bongaigaon; Harunal Rashid, SDO (Fisheries), Abhayapuri; Hitesh Kewalramani, Assistant Director, NCDC; and progressive farmer Phatick Ahmed. Officials from NCDC RO Guwahati also took part in the event.
Participants were sensitized on schemes like PMMSY and FIDF, while NCDC officials highlighted cooperative development initiatives and the role of India’s first fisheries incubation centre, LIFIC.

The programme concluded with a commitment to boost fisheries-based business opportunities, enhance farmer incomes, and strengthen cooperative initiatives in the region, an official release stated.
