Dima Hasao: A serious allegation has been leveled against Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), who stands accused of issuing death threats and criminal intimidation. The complaint was filed by Neijaylal Khelma, a resident of Umrangso in Dima Hasao district, at the Umrangso Police Station.
According to the FIR, Khelma received a threatening phone call on October 9 around 7:25 pm from a number reportedly linked to Projith Hojai, an associate of Gorlosa. Khelma alleged that during the call, Gorlosa verbally abused him and threatened to kill him and his family. He believes the threats are connected to his potential testimony before the One-Man Commission led by Justice (Retd.) Anima Hazarika.
Khelma cited sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Section 351(3) for criminal intimidation and Section 329 for criminal trespass, and requested police protection for his family. He further claimed that on October 16, Gorlosa summoned his brother to his residence, allegedly to pressure him into withdrawing the complaint. Khelma said he possesses audio recordings of the alleged threats, which he intends to submit as evidence.

In response, Gorlosa strongly denied the allegations, calling them baseless and politically motivated, claiming the audio clip was AI-generated. He added that Khelma had been previously expelled from his party for “anti-party activities,” including financial misconduct, and insisted the FIR was part of an attempt by rivals to damage his reputation ahead of elections.
The Dima Hasao police confirmed that a case (UMRP PS C/No. 27/2025) has been registered, with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) as the Investigating Officer. Authorities have assigned four security personnel to safeguard Khelma and his family.
Attempts to reach Khelma for further comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
