Aizawl: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has called on the Mizoram Police and the Assam Rifles to strengthen coordinated efforts to prevent human trafficking across the India-Myanmar border.
In an official statement, the NCW said the move follows growing concerns over cross-border trafficking networks exploiting vulnerable entry points in Mizoram.
NCW member Delina Khongdup on Monday visited Zokhawthar, a border village near the Indo-Myanmar boundary, to review ground realities and assess current security and preventive measures.
During her visit, Khongdup held extensive discussions with officials from the Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles, emphasising the need for joint vigilance and stronger inter-agency coordination to protect women and children from trafficking threats.
She also highlighted the importance of empowerment initiatives in border communities to help women achieve financial independence and reduce their vulnerability to exploitation.
Khongdup was accompanied by Mizoram State Commission for Women chairperson C. Zodinpuii and other senior officials during the inspection.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to working with state and central authorities to build safer and more resilient border communities.
