Guwahati: Three development schemes implemented in Assam with financial assistance from the North Eastern Council (NEC) have been formally completed, involving a total sanctioned amount of Rs 11.55 crore. At the same time, the council has released an additional Rs 4.42 crore for fresh initiatives in the state. The completed schemes are spread across Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts and were undertaken to improve development and service-related infrastructure in the areas concerned.

Among the projects completed was a Rs 4.97-crore scheme at Lumbajong Development Block. Another project at Sarmen Hanse village under the same block was implemented with an allocation of Rs 1.97 crore. A third scheme, located at Chinthong Block in West Karbi Anglong, involved an expenditure of Rs 4.61 crore. These projects formed part of 14 schemes across the northeastern region that were completed or formally closed by the NEC during September. Collectively, the schemes were valued at Rs 45.48 crore. Assam has also received fresh financial support from the NEC during the month. Of the Rs 4.42 crore released to the state, funds have been earmarked for construction of student hostels at Bineswar Brahma Engineering College in Kokrajhar and development initiatives related to the Singpho community in Tinsukia.
During September, the NEC released a total of Rs 42.63 crore across the Northeast. Of this amount, Rs 35.21 crore went to the northeastern states, while Rs 7.42 crore was provided to regional institutions and agencies for infrastructure, capacity-building and technology-oriented activities. The council continues to fund development programmes across the region, with assistance covering areas such as education, connectivity, rural development, tourism, technology and community infrastructure.
